Episode 77: Money as a Creative Process with Megan Macedo

I was so inspired by my conversation with Megan Macedo and I just can’t wait for you to hear it today!

Megan runs a marketing and storytelling consultancy that helps people be themselves in their professional lives, while exploring how family and cultural context shape our story and our work. As a starting point, we take a look at the perception that artists are automatically bad at business and dive deeper into where that comes from.

Megan walks us through the differences between following a ‘business paradigm’ that asks you to hustle/grind/produce, and an ‘art paradigm’ that asks who you are and what your instincts say.

If we challenge the business paradigm that is so often forced on us as the norm, we realise that making money is a creative process… in fact, it’s a process that benefits from creativity!

Tune in for more on how to follow your own creative paradigm in your business!

QUOTES

“Most of us have been raised in the business paradigm - western culture is the business paradigm. You can also think of it as the productivity paradigm, the hustle, grind culture. The focus is on the outcome… Whereas the art paradigm, the focus is on the process. The focus is on: who are you, what are your creative instincts?”

“Money lives in the art paradigm. It's just been like bastardized in the business paradigm.”

“Making money is a creative process. It's as simple as that.”

“The need to make money means that you have to create a container so that the work can be born.”
